UNDERSTAND HORSES

Having a basic working knowledge of clicker training with equines, this course has enabled me to finesse the theory and practical side with challenges, while being able to adapt them to the animals I work with. Trudi has been phenomenal with support in the forum, and on the zoom meetings. Her explanations are great and the video responses to explain or demonstrate what she means has been really helpful. She gives a realistic approach to support tailored to your situation and so many different ideas, or discussions for it. Having the opportunity to have feedback on training videos as well as shaping plans, flow plans and everything in-between has been invaluable. Highly recommend for those in rescue, sanctuaries or with their own animals.

Even if you already have experience, there's nothing better than going back to basics and improving the ground you stand on! I have really found joy and new motivation in looking at my cues and working towards making them even clearer for my horse. I loved the coaching style!

This course is really excellent. The lectures and challenges give a great, straight-forward foundation in the behavioural science, wonderful explanations of how learning takes place and why the methods used benefit the horse's emotional well-being. I have been using R+ training for quite a few years now and have a reasonable knowledge of the science, but the explanations were still extremely useful to me and definitely deepened my understanding. Trudi is such an empathic, non-judgemental trainer with a real passion for meeting people where they are at and improving things, not only for horses, but also for their people (which helps their horses!). She is evidently highly knowledgeable about behavioural science, but has a rare ability to give you the snippet of information and insight you need at the correct time to be able make visible improvements without over-facing you. There can be a very dogmatic approach from some trainers who use predominantly R+, which can be off putting to people wanting to explore a kinder way with their animals, but aren't ready to or actually can't change everything they do, and/or study for a degree in behavioural science, before starting! Trudi definitely uses R+ with her students and everyone benefited from this! I have come away from this course feeling highly motivated and much more positive about training my horses. A great thing about this course is that you can see how Trudi interacts with all the participants, who are all at different starting points and with different issues and goals. She really listens and actually hears what people say and gives highly tailored, valuable (and super fast) feedback, that helps the horse and works for the human! Awesome course, made outstanding by Trudi!

I appreciate Trudi's excellent presentations; well arranged, just enough information at a pace that's just right, in do-able time blocks, with nearly poetic wording and diction. The graphics make the concepts clear - even concepts I thought I understood before were made more clear to me in the first week of the course. I look forward to each lesson to strengthen my theory and practice.

I think the best part about this horse is that your learner gets to be involved too. Being able to film your own progress and get feedback was so valuable and lead to me making lots more progress than I would have made on my own. It was fun and reenergised me to spend better quality time with my horse. I also learned lots about the more technical and theoretical side of Positive Reinforcement.

This course was exactly what I needed, and gave me the confidence to begin exploring positive reinforcement training in more detail. Trudi's science and practical lectures were engaging and easy to understand, which made the training challenges feel approachable and achievable. Trudi's personalised feedback on video sessions was thorough and insightful, whilst also being encouraging and positive. Thank you, I will be back for more!

I am relatively new to positive reinforcement training and have not really been in a “ learning “ environment for several decades so when I saw this course advertised on social media I was very interested but also worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up or it would be too much for me. I made contact with the lovely Trudi Dempsey who put me at ease and encouraged me to sign up, I’m so very glad I did. I absolutely loved the course, so much information, feedback and a wonderfully supportive community to share the journey with. This course has given me the confidence I needed to progress with my training and I hope Trudi will be doing another course.
