Would you like to learn how to train horses with food safely and effectively?

How we handle and train our horses is extremely important, not just for our horse's welfare but also for the effect that it has on our relationship and our safety. More horse owners and trainers are looking for humane, compassionate methods of training so positive reinforcement (reward-based training) using food is becoming more popular.

This course, from equine behaviour consultant and trainer Trudi Dempsey, is an introduction to training horses with food. Trudi discusses the pros and cons of training using food rewards, as well as giving you tips on how to improve your training skills and troubleshoot any problems you may be having.

 You will learn:

• How to improve your training skills

• How to set your horse up for success in training

• The basic principles of positive reinforcement training

• How to train calm behaviour around food

• How to recognise the early signs of stress in your horse

• The best foods to use in training

• Troubleshooting tips for training problems around food

• Tips to improve your horse’s behaviour and reduce stress

This course is aimed at horse owners, students and equestrian professionals interested in learning about horse behaviour. It is suitable for anyone who is considering training their horse with food or for those who are already doing so. You don't need any prior knowledge about horse behaviour to take this course.

Once enrolled you have 60 days to complete the course.

So many courses and videos on clicker training bypass the science and jump right into practical application. This aspirational approach may be more entertaining, but doesn't set the trainer up to succeed in a real world training situation. Trudi's course was such a pleasant surprise in this regard. Whether you are a complete beginner or you are already clicker training with your horse and think you know the basics, you will get enormous value from this course. I know I will be watching it several more times to retain as much as possible. Trudi somehow manages to generously package an incredible amount of information into less than 2 hours while keeping the pace fast and the content varied and interesting. Video snippets of many of her clients throughout the course help to illustrate key points in real situations. I highly recommend this course if you want a solid, science-based foundation upon which to build your positive reinforcement horse training skills. I am really looking forward to seeing what comes next from Trudi.

This course is aspirational as well as inspirational and whilst based on solid science, Trudi has succeeded in making it understandable, entertaining and educational. The videos add enormous value and demonstrate the subtle behaviours both we and the horse show each other, thereby introducing increased awareness of self, the horse, environment and well-being for both. More importantly Trudi gives us the tools to progress with positivity if things go a little awry. Trudi has an innate ability to understand humans and equines working together making her the perfect trainer and presenter for this course. I highly recommend this course.
